Viet Nam regards Japan as important development partner, Party leader says

Viet Nam regards Japan as an important and long-term development partner, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong told Japanese reporters ahead of his official visit beginning from Tuesday.

The Party leader also that Viet Nam wishes to boost the strategic relations with Japan for peace and prosperity in Asia.

The visit is expected to strengthen economic linkages, political trust and cooperation in regional and international issues, contributing to enhancing the strategic relations with Japan for peace and prosperity in Asia.

Party leader Trong hopes that Japan would continue to offer official development assistace for Viet Nam, expand investment in high-tech, supporting industries, infrastructure, agriculture areas while facilitating trade exchanges between the two countries.

Both sides should also step up cooperation in environmental protection, climate change response, defense and security, he said.

Regarding ASEAN Community, Party leader Trong affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to the role of ASEAN for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

Viet Nam consistently advocates a united and strong ASEAN Community as it benefits both Viet Nam and the region as well, said Mr. Trong, adding that Viet Nam pledges to make further active and responsible contributions to ASEAN.

Party leader Trong said Viet Nam eyes further Japanese role in peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region.

As an important player in the region, he hopes that Japan would continue backing ASEAN central role in regional cooperative mechanisms./.
