State President busy on UN Summit sidelines

State President Truong Tan Sang met with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan on the sidelines of the UN Summit in New York, the U.S., on September 26.
 
State President Sang called on the two countries to enhance exchanges of business delegations, trade promotion in such fields like garment, footwear, agriculture, aquaculture, construction materials.

He invited the President of Turkmenistan to visit Viet Nam soon.

Meanwhile, President Berdimuhamedov affirmed his country’s wish to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Viet Nam.

The two leaders also agreed to tighten coordination to make active contribution to global peace and security as well as peaceful settlement of conflicts and disputes on the basis of international law.

During his meeting with President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi of Mozambique, State President Sang affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to the traditional relations with the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) and the Mozambican State.

He asked the Government of Mozambique to create favorable conditions for the effective implementation of Viet Nam’s projects, including telecommunication and agriculture ones, in the African country.

State President Sang also invited President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi to pay an official visit to Viet Nam soon.

President Nyusi recalled his impressions during his visit to Viet Nam in 2011 as the Minister of Defense, speaking highly of Viet Nam’s ongoing projects in Mozambique.

President Nyusi also said he will dispatch the Minister of Transport to Viet Nam to discuss more concrete cooperative measures.

Both sides agreed to further enhance coordination at multilateral forums for the sake of developing countries. State President Sang took the occasion to thank for Mozambique’s support for Viet Nam’s bid for the membership of UNESCO Executive Board between 2015 and 2019, ECOSOC for the tenure 2016-2018 and UN Security Council for the tenure 2020-2021.

Meeting with Swedish PM Stefan Lofven, State President Sang suggested that both countries should foster exchanges of delegations at all levels.

State President Sang invited PM Stefan Lofven and King Gustav XVI to visit Viet Nam at convenient times. Meanwhile, PM Stefan Lofven said generations of Swedish leaders have had good sentiments for Viet Nam.

In a bid to facilitate trade ties between the two countries, State President Sang urged Sweden to accelerate the ratification of the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement.

He called for early recognition of Viet Nam’s market economy status by Sweden and the European Commission, thus contributing to strengthening economic ties between Viet Nam and the EU in general and Sweden in particular.

He also called on Sweden to continue provision of official development assistance to support the Southeast Asian country’s efforts in climate change adaptation and gender equality.

Regarding regional and international issues of common concern, State President Sang asked Sweden to back the positions of Viet Nam and ASEAN in settling disputes through peaceful measures in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea./.
