Vietnam to step up communication programs on ASEAN Community

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung on January 8 chaired an inter-ministerial meeting to evaluate the achievements and progress in ASEAN cooperation in 2015 and identify priorities in 2016.

Representatives of ministries and agencies to the event analyzed Viet Nam’s opportunities and challenges in the bloc’s next development stage and actively exchanged views on cooperation priorities at both national and regional levels.

For regional level, the delegates agreed on four key orientations, namely, effective realization of the ASEAN Community Vision to 2025 and master plans, especially initiatives designed to narrow development gap, the realization of the existing commitments related to free trade, services and investment; deeper integration in socio-cultural field; and further promotion of the ASEAN solidarity and unity and its central role, and expansion of external relations between ASEAN and its partners.

At national level, the delegates stressed the necessity to accelerate ASEAN Community communication, improve domestic laws to facilitate regional commitments, improve the quality and effectiveness of coordination among relevant agencies.

In 2015, Viet Nam continued its active and responsible participation in ASEAN integration, effectively observed its commitments and made practical contribution to the formation of the ASEAN Community. The country was also an active stakeholder in fostering cooperation between ASEAN and its partners.
