Vietnam absorbs US$1.33 bln FDI in January

In January, total newly-registered and additional FDI capital amounted to US$1.33 billion, up 101 percent against the same period in 2015, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA).

As of January 20, FDI disbursement reached US$800 million, a year-on-year growth of 23%.

The FIA under the Ministry of Planning and Investment reported that 127 projects worth US$1.01 billion got business licenses, up 158 percent against the same period in 2015. Meanwhile, 56 other projects got additional capital valuing US$323 million, up 19%.

In the first month, foreign investors participated in 16 sectors, of which the processing and manufacturing industries lured much attention with 58 projects with a total newly-registered and additional capital of US$905 million.  

Entertainment and arts attracted a large-scale project worth US$210 million (accounting for 15.7% of total investment), becoming the second sought-after sector.

Electricity production and distribution ranked third by absorbing US$59 million of investment or 4.4% of total investment./.
