VN welcomes 10 millionth foreign visitor in Phu Quoc

The Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), the People’s Committee of Kien Giang Province, and the Viet Nam Airlines held a ceremony to welcome the 10 millionth foreign visitor to Viet Nam in 2016 on December 25.
 
The 10 millionth visitor was Michael Tonge from the UK. The 9,999,999th and the 10,000,001 were respectively Mr. Andrej Marek Balzer from Germany and Ms. Eva Lena Karlsson from Sweden.
 
Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that the number of European visitors to Viet Nam surged sharply by around 20%, contributing to spurring Vietnamese tourism.
 
Viet Nam, said the Minister, always creates favorable ways for international tourists to Viet Nam and commits to improving service quality, food hygiene, sanitary environment,  and security.
 
Minister Thien also said that since February, Viet Nam will grant e-visa for foreign tourists with a view to creating the best ways for visitors.
 
The  tourism sector gained many outstanding achievements this year, including the largest number ever of international tourists of 10 million which represents an increase of 2 million visitors compared to 2015.
 
The tourism industry sector expects to receive 11.5 million foreign visitor and 66 million local arrivals; and make a total income of VND460 trillion in 2017./.
