US$4.51 billion FDI disbursed in five months

 Disbursement of foreign direct investment (FDI) reached US$4.51 billion in the first five months of this year, equal to 99.8 percent of the figure recorded in the same period last year, says the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).


    In the reviewed period, Vietnam attracted US$4.12 billion in registered capital for 283 new projects, or 74.7 percent of last year’s figure.

    The country also allowed 82 projects to add a total capital of US$1.2 billion, down 47.5 percent against last year’s period.

    The processing industry topped the list of FDI with 127 new projects and 66 projects adding capital, together worth US$3.3 billion, accounting for 62.3 percent of total investment capital.

     MPI said the index of industrial production (IIP) in the first five months rose by 4.2 percent over the same period last year.

    The total value of official development assistance (ODA) agreements hit more than US$2.1 billion, while ODA disbursement reached US$530 million.

    There are more than 30,100 newly established enterprises with total registered capital of VND190,000 billion, down 12.2 percent in number of enterprises and 3.6 percent in capital against last year.
